Come and join us on this journey to the roses of Isparta.  See them with your own eyes, pick them with your own hands, and witness first hand the distillation process of the precious rose otto.

We will begin our trip in the magnificent, historic city of Istanbul by enjoying the sites for two days. There is so much to do and see there; the ancient Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, The Blue Mosque, and the underground Cistern built by Justinian when Istanbul was called Byzantium.  You will see the mythic Bosphorus, which flows through the city and the fabulous covered markets of Istanbul.

From Istanbul, we will go by bus to Isparta where the legendary Rosa damascena grows and rose otto is produced throughout the area at various distillation stations.  We will be welcomed by the Kinici family of the Sebat Ticaret rose plantation. During our two days there here we will participate in the harvest and rose oil production, see the world’ s largest rose absolute facility and partake of a traditional Turkish outdoor celebration.  Here, there will also be demonstrations of old copper alembics and lectures given by Dr. Peter Wilde and Debbie Freund RN, on various aspects of rose history and use.

From Isparta, we will go again by bus to Antalya, visit another distillery and have a chance to relax  in this lovely sea side town for a day before flying back to Istanbul and then home.

This is a rare and unique opportunity for Rose lovers, aromatherapists and any one interested in this Earth friendly industry. We will also be accompanied by Turkish citizen and Aromatherapist Jayda Uras, and Dr. Howard Freund, chemist.  Most of the trip details have been worked out, we are getting this information to you before too much more time goes by, so you can make your plans.

Our hotel in Istanbul will be the Avicenna.  http://www.avicennahotel.com. I stayed there in 1999

when I traveled to Turkey with Peter Wilde. The owners have a home in Orange New Jersey and come to the states often. They have a 3 year old daughter named April who is a US citizen.  This charming hotel is in walking distance to the historic old part of Istanbul and the staff is friendly and helpful. There is a beautiful view of the Bosphorus from the top balcony.  They have arranged to take our group out for a traditional Turkish kabobs dinner.

My friend Hasan Kinici, owner of the Sebat Ticaret rose farm in Isparta has made our hotel arrangements there. This small town is in the center of the rose district. We will visit the Kinici family farm, pick the roses there and see the rose otto and absolute extraction processes, view an old-fashioned alembic distillation demonstration, and will participate in  a Turkish picnic and out door celebration at the Sebat farm.

Our hotel in Antalya will be the Hotel Urcu.  We also stayed in this charming hotel in 1999. Again, friendly, helpful staff work here, it is walking distance to the seaside, and we were happy and comfortable there. We will visit Altes distillery while in Antalya.

Jayda Uras, my friend, aromatherapist and Turkish citizen will accompany us on this trip.

It is advised for all travelers who have not been to Turkey beforehand to read about the modern culture there and to bring clothes appropriate for this country.
